How to program msp430 microprocessors for mass production ?

Dear Friends,

We could develop a prototype with any msp430 series microprocessors and program them by JTAG interface. However, if we need to produce more than 1000 PCB which is designed based on MSP430, I would like to know that is there any effective and fast methods could be used to achieve this requirement. Thank you.

Sunglin.

  • Speak to your manufacturing partner - they should be able to do this for you.

Or speak to your Distributor - they may be able to offer this service, or direct you to someone who can.

  • Besides asking the distributor for pre-programming the MSPs, you can use a GANG programmer to program a number of devices at once. Either you attach ZIF sockets on it and replace the MSPs once programmed, or you attach the final PCBs (if there is a JTAG connector ont eh PCB) and program them after assembly. (the second option is the nicer one, as handling the unsoldered MSPs is tricky - you can put one too easily rotated int he tray and get it then soldered with wrong orientation).

If the software of the GANG supports continuous operation, you can replace one PCB whiel the nex tone is programmed, allowing continuous operation.
