MSP430 internet connectivity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3S6965

Hi,

Can any one please help me with the code to receive data from internet web page to MSP430 (through Ethernet LAN controller CS8900A) in "MSP430 internet connectivity application", the code given in SLAA137A is to transmit data from msp430 to internet web page, i need a code to obtain communication on both side.

Thanks in advance:)

  • This forum is probably the wrong place for this question. I had a similar issue and ended up using the TI LM3S6965 development kit. Wayyyy easier than doing it with an MSP430, and lower cost too.

  • Hi Derek9531,

Thanks for the suggestion, but to complete my internship project with title "home automation using internet", i have chosen the "Internet connectivity using MSP430".

Here i can obtain one way communication from MSP430 to internet web page (through Ethernet Lan controller) but i'm feeling difficult to receive data.

    Can you please suggest me.

    thank you.....

Don't try to bluff this - you will be found out sooner or later!

If you're stuck, speak to your supervisor/tutor.

    "home automation using internet",

    That's hardly a ground-breaking innovation, is it?

There are many projects on the web doing exactly that - have you spent any time studying them to see how they do it...?

Do you understand how the protocols involved work?

Obviously, that must be your starting point!

    Here's a good tutorial: http://www.jmarshall.com/easy/

Note that the protocols are entirely independent of the underlying hardware...

  • In SLAA137A application note shows an MSP430F149-based system, and explains very basic operation of TCP / IP and application layer related to HTTP.
My suggestion is to acquire a deeper understanding of these two data transfer protocols, and then relate this information to the hardware implemented.
Perhaps this is not the best place to acquire a deeper understanding of these protocols ...

Indeed. As already noted, the protocols are entirely independent of the underlying hardware - that's the whole point of the internet protocols!

In fact, the constraints & compromises necessary to implement them on a target like an MSP430 may tend to cloud rather than clarify the issue...
