Problem in using IAR MSP and IAR Rx on same system.

Hi,

Initially i was using IAR Rx for my project.

Now i also needed to use MSP430. But when i try to open a project of MSP430 from examples, it tries to open using IAR Rx, heceby throwing errors, like tool-chain for "MSP" not supported etc.

Where is the problem ??

  • You need to install IAR for the MSP430 as well. It will be two different applications. I've been through the same thing. I have IAR kickstarter for 8051, RX and MSP430 on same system. http://www.iar.com/en/Products/IAR-Embedded-Workbench/

  • @Gre Whitmore: Thanks for help.

There's still one problem. Though i can open IAR for MSP430 from start->all programs menu, I can't open a MSP430 project directly in IAR MSP430.

It tries to open by default in IAR Rx. Also, "open with" option displays option for IAR Rx only.

Just  for a matter of inconvenience !!

  • Without manual tweaking, there is only one 'open' entry for any given program extension. By tweaking the file extension dialog, you can add a second entry 'open with IAR for MSP430' or such. It did it for Eagle (I have a full 4.x license, bu talso isntalled 6.x free version for viewing documents created with the not backwards compatible newer versions).

Alternatively, you can sue teh 'open with' dialog anf then search for application and open with the right one. This may give you a default open (doubleclick) with one version adn through the open with dialog with the other one.

There is no way for Windows to determine which version to use on a doubleclick.
