MSP430 USB Debug Interface FET430UIF Device Drivers on ti.com

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430WARE

Hi to all,

I'm looking for MSP430 USB Debugging Interface device drivers ver. 1.4.0.0. When trying to download the MSP430ware bundle, I found out that only 1.30.0 driverlib was available on www.ti.com.

Is there a chance to get the latest device driver? Could anyone provide additional information about it?

Thank you in advance

Best regards

  • Matteo,

I think you're confusing the emulation pod drivers (MSP430 UIF) with the USB peripheral drivers that are in MSP430ware.  The UIF drivers have nothing to do with the MSP430ware drivers for the USB peripheral that is on some of the MSP430 devices.

The UIF drivers are typically upgraded automatically by the debugger (e.g., CCS or IAR).  If I'm understanding you correctly, you are looking for a particular version of the UIF driver for some particular reason (and frankly, I don't think the 1.4.0.0 is correct for a UIF driver number, but I'm not in the office right now to check so I'm not sure).  What is going on that you think you need this?

    Regards,

    David

  • Hi David,

Thank you in advance for your quick reply. I summurize in few words what I've expected to find: I need to work with MSP430 USB-Debug-Interface (MSP-FET430UIF) (P/N: MSP - FET430U28A), since I'm not abel to use the software CD delivered with the hardware, I was supposed to download it from the TI website. Doing so I felt pretty confused when surfing on the pages in order to find a downloadable driver. I must confess It's first time I use this hardware and maybe need having ideas to be clarified about this device.

Concerning the 1.4.0.0 version I mentioned above, I simply got this number by right-clicking on the Properties button in the Windows XP (SP3) Device Manager on the item representing the device. Is that value incorrect? How can I get the correct driver version?

Best regards and have a great day!

    Matteo

  • Matteo,

It looks to me that you already have the UIF driver installed on your PC if you are able to right-click and see the driver properties.  When I do this on my PC, I see the same driver version 1.4.0.0.

So, I'm unclear on what you want to do.  What software are you trying to use with the UIF?  Code Composer Studio (CCS)?

    >>  I'm not abel to use the software CD delivered with the hardware, I was supposed to download it from the TI website.

The software on the CD contains a size-limited version of CCS.  I don't know why you cannot use this, but you can also download CCS from here: http://www.ti.com/tool/ccstudio.  Scroll down and click the "CCS-Free" under "Order Now".

  • Hi David,

Thank you once more for you to try troubleshooting my issue. Here below I try to briefly explain what I was referring to:

    >> So, I'm unclear on what you want to do.  What software are you trying to use with the UIF?  Code Composer Studio (CCS)?

I'm trying to have the device work on a clone test machine supposed to download software on a device. Doing so, I must be sure that spare machine has the same software framenwork (ADE, Drivers, etc...) of the original one.

    >>  I'm not abel to use the software CD delivered with the hardware, I was supposed to download it from the TI website.

The issue came when I realized that TI Software CD is not available in my office. This drave me to look for the same device driver on the website, in order to have the computer to correctly recognize the TI device since it's plugged into the USB port.

Now it seems clear that I was msleaded by the device driver version mentioned in the Device Manager.

  • Matteo,

The UIF driver will get installed with CCS.  Download and install the free CCS version I cited previously, and you should get what you need.
