This only occurs when using CCS, but does not occur in IAR,
should happen the same on both platforms.

MSPGCC did originally deactivate the WDT before initializing the global variables. Which was counterproductive if you needed the WDT for recovering from ESD in a rough environment. CCS originally didn't clear uninitialized variables (so the WDT problem only happened when there were as many initialized variables.)

However, 1k isn't that much and should be no problem at all. There must be more with your code. ots of global variables in main? Static variables? Heapspace used? Or you do something right at start of the application that causes a crash/reset.
