Is this Forum just for engineers or also for beginners?

Hi!

I have a question. Is this Forum a place where only professional engineers ask and answer or is it also dedicated to totally beginners to learn how to use TI Microcontrollers?

It is very annoying to get answers like "Keep your eyes closed" when asking a question. Or things like "ha, ha, ha there are a lot of Errors in your code" when posting code that does not work as expected.

If you say, yes that is why here are engineers solving Problems and not parents looking at their Kids in the sandbox it would be okay.

But if it is also dedicated to beginners it is a shame. Professionals that hate dumb questions from beginners shoud better not read these questions, and please dont answer with troll Content.

Thanks!

Steffen

  • Hello friend :)

definitely this forum is for helping other people in their designs.

just be patient and ignore annoying answers.

    Kind regards

  • As always: it depends.

If you start (dumb) questions about C syntax, then this is definitely the wrong place.

But if you like to ask questions about the MSP430 architecture, controlling its peripherals, funny embedded applications and so one, then you are right here!

    Good luck.

In my opinion original question was ok because it is always advised to define function-style macros in C - so their use mimic function call: LPM3_EXIT(); Why authors of mentioned header file did not follow this sane rule - who knows.

Beginners often expect others to do job for them - read documentation, use google or ti.com search, write code and what's worse - do it ASAP. This is most annoying and is not welcome in any forum. So as long as you properly ask and show that you really tried everything you can/know, show what you tried - it's ok to ask beginner's questions, even stupid ones.

  • Thank you Ilmars. Month ago i was really angry about that "there are lots of errors" answer. I dont know what is wrong with CCS until today. I have started learning C and i only use the linux Command line tools, because it shows errors if there where some. There are basic things i thought i understood, and then i am confused if i only misunderstood it. English is not my native Language what makes it much more difficult.

:) I started to learn C language long before WWW was invented, not to mention forums. All I had was compiler, couple of books and very busy teacher I can literally catch once/twice a week. I succeed. Now it's annoying to see ppl asking simple questions that clearly show that they did not even try to use their head or look for answer in the book or internet. Perhaps month ago someone answering your question felt same way.

    That's the key.

It's not about whether the poster is a beginner or not - it's about whether they've made an effort.

My first assembly program was written using a one-line assembler (rather a disassembler with mnemonic translator). No macros, no labels. And (worst of all) no documentation (not even of the commands it understood). And no WWW to look for help. And only very expensive books which weren't available in my native language, if at all. (so I couldn't afford or use them). And still there was some result.
Well, that was some 25 years ago.

Today, some people think they can get everything for free on a siilver platter. 'please send complete code' is often seen here.

It' snot only annoying to see basic questions asked in an engineers forum. The main problem is that those questions could be answered somewhere else. Or solved by just reading the printed error message carefully. Answering (or even reading) those threads draws time form the 'real' problems that need attention. Things that cannot be found in gazillions of C coders forums or tutorials or just compiler manuals.
    That is the annoying part.

Effort is required in two ways:

    1. In at least putting some work into researching/studying/thinking about the issue at hand;

    2. In crafting the question with sufficient, well-presented information and background to allow readers to give good answers.
