MSP430 - Pins VCore and V18

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F6659

Hi,

Could someone explain to me what is the exactly use of these pins VCore and V18?
I read it's just a internal voltage supply, but what do I need to do with them? Must I apply something on the input?

I'm using MSP430f6659.

Thank you!

Exactly what the datasheet says to do. From http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/msp430f6659.pdf on page 12:

VCORE(2) 27 M2 Regulated core power supply (internal use only, no external current loading)

Footnote (2) at the bottom of the page:

    (2) VCORE is for internal use only. No external current loading is possible. VCORE should only be connected to the recommended capacitor value, CVCORE.

Note Page 51 of the datasheet:

CVCORE Capacitor at VCORE 470 nF

    In regards to V18:

V18 82 B9 USB regulated power (internal use only, no external current loading) (not available on F6459, F6458, F5359, F5358 devices)

Note Page 82 of the datasheet:

    C18 V18 terminal recommended capacitance 220 nF

  • Thank  you Brian,

I just needed to confirm that there's no need to apply something on those pins, but you referenced it clearly.

    Best.

I should have answered this too. The purpose of the pins simply is so you can add the necessary capacitance that the internal regulator needs on it's supply output to the rest of the chip. It's cheaper (and easier) to have the customer add these capacitors than to try and make a cap of that size in polysilicon.
