i have a problem:
Error: "Could not find MSP-FET430UIF on specified COM port
when i first bought the launchpad, and i conect it to mi laptop, and then, i install the code composer studio....so the problem appeared.....so
when i reinstall the ccs and the MSP430 launchpad .....and i hope to solve the problem , i got the same results:
Error: "Could not find MSP-FET430UIF on specified COM port
please, help me.
i have a Toshiba Laptop with windows 7
from the beginning, my first mistake was having connected the launchpad, and then install the Code Composer Studio. But when I reinstall the program and also the Launchap drivers, also get the same problem. That is, the first to write a program in C, and then get the error message, what I do is reinstall the Code Composer Studio and Launchad drivers. And when I start the CCS. the first thing that is displayed is exactly the same code in C that I wrote in the program that I had installed previously. it's as if the program could remember the previous state.

I does. De- and re-installing CCS does not wipe the workspace. And since almost all settings are stored in the workspace (except of the location of the workspace, but unless you changed the default...), the new installaiton will find the old projects and settings there.
That's not a CCS issue but rather how the underlying Eclipse framework works.
What Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID) do you see for the LaunchPad?
CCStudio V5 Error - MSP430: Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found
What do you see for the VID and PID when you look at the MSP-FET430UIF COM port properties? Here is what I see.
You can read the firmware version of the MSP-FET430UIF using Elprotronic FET-Pro430 Lite Software
One option is to install the USB drivers using this software.
I can verify that communication from my PC to the MSP-FET430UIF works by reading the firmware version. What do you see?

If someone is trying to look for a dog and you give him a cat, will that solve the problem? Can solve his problem by either tell him to look for a cat instead or by giving him a dog.
LaunchPad is not a MSP-FET430UIF!
old_cow_yellow said:LaunchPad is not a MSP-FET430UIF!
I do not use CCS. Yet I do understand that CCS does not need MSP-FET430UIF to download/debug G2xx chips on a LunchPad.
However, CCS sent an error msg that says specifically that it cold not find MSP-FET430UIF. Is this a meaningless message? Did it want to find MSP-FET430UIF despite of the fact that it does not need it? Anyway, I am glad that I do not use CCS.
Aparently´. Maybe because the project settings tell it to use an MSP430UIF isntead of usiign anythign it can find. Or becaquse a fixed COM port is specified and the LaunchPad is on a different one.old_cow_yellow said:Did it want to find MSP-FET430UIF despite of the fact that it does not need it?
Julio,
What MSP430 device are you using in your LaunchPad? What are the device markings?
I don't see a problem with the connection between your computer and the LaunchPad. The next step will be to download some compiled code. With your answers, I will be able to build two programs for you to try to download. Please install the Elprotronic FET-Pro430 Lite Software.
If you populate the socket with the MSP430G2452, you can test downloading the code referenced here.

Here's what I observe.
What happens when you try MSP430 Flasher? MSP430 Flasher has its own MSP430.dll

1. Download and install MSP430 Flasher to the default location.
2. Open a command prompt window. [Win] + r, then type "cmd"
3. Navigate to the MSP430 Flasher directory. Type, "cd c:\ti\MSP430Flasher_1.2.1"
4. Copy and paste the compiled binaries you want to download to this folder too.
5. Download the binary to the MSP430 LaunchPad kit (MSP-EXP430G2).
Type, "MSP430Flasher.exe -n MSP430G2553 -v -w yourFileName.txt -i USB -z [VCC]
Hi Jason,
I had a similar problem, with IAR workbench, as per the past previous threads i even tried with Elpoptronic driver for MSP FET i tried it, it was even resulting in the same error for me as Julio Reyes got it.
Below is the error screen, when i tried reading the Firmware Version and the next image is the Error screen, when i tried loading a code into it.
And when i checked with the Device manager for the USB port details, i couldn't able to find any driver for this connected USB, do i need to replace this USB cable, since it was not loading the driver or shall i try with the MSP430 Flasher. Kindly suggest something for me to check.

Which kit are you using?
What happens when you plug the USB cable into a different USB port of your computer?
What Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID) do you see for your kit/programmer?

Hi Jason,
I'm Using the MSP-EXP430G2 Launchpad..
I don't see any activity when i connect the USB, the Driver is not listed/ updating in my Device manager window. I tried with Different Com ports and i even tried with different USB cables.
I also Crosss checked with Elprotronic and MSP430Flasher, both says the driver is not connected.
FYI, i have attached the image of Both Elprotronic and MSP430Flasher details below.
The below image is with MSP430Flasher
I suspect there could be a problem with the Emulator Chip(MSP430F1612), by which the USB couldn't able to succeed its Communication Protocol on connection with PC. But the notable point is i believe there is no problem with the USB Cable connected as the Cable could able to supply the Vcc to the board by which the LED on the launchpad Glows.
Could this be correct, Is there anything which i could test to use it. Kindly Let me know your suggestions.
Regards
Suresh

We have established that there is a problem with the connection between your MSP-EXP430G2 and your computer. Let's narrow it down further.
What happens when you connect your MSP-EXP430G2 to a different computer?
Do you have another board that you know works? What happens when you connect a different board or USB product to your computer?
Hello Julio Reyes,
II had the same problem with my launchpad MSP430F5529LP, But with IAR IDE. when i installed IAR i can able to download program, but recently i installed drivers from patch programmer from location
C:\ti\PatchProgrammerMSP430F5529LP-7.11.7.13.19\Drivers.
Now when i tried to download program in iAR it raised the following error.
I observed the com ports in Device Manager, earlier the MSP debug interface used to have a com port number but it now shows no com port number can any one help me?

Spent a good part of a day doing the same and also found it was some combination of "Bluetooth Remote Control" devices and a "Logitech Gaming Virtual Mouse" device listed in Device Manager in Win 8.1. The bluetooth devices were listed in under a device type described "Virtual" something and the gaming mouse device was listed under Human Interface Devices. After disabling both I've been able to reliably enter debug with my MSP430G2 553 launchpad.
If anyone is having similar problems I'd recommend carefully combing through Device Manager and disabling anything with Virtual in the name.
I've also noticed it's best Resume/Play the code while in debug before Terminate/Stop if you want to exit debugging. Doing it this way allows you to re-enter debugging with no FET errors. Unplugging/plugging launchpad and a CCS v6 relaunch works well too.
EDIT: After more playing around I found that while this seemed to fix most of my debug connection errors I still wasn't able to get serial output from the launchpad. I decided to flatten my machine and install win10 but I was having the same issues with a fresh windows install. I then found the thread below that said to disable USB Intel xHCI Controller in the BIOS. THIS WORKS!
The amount of time I had to spend troubleshooting this launchpad to get basic functionality working has been horrifying and insanely frustrating. Another experience like this and I'll dump TI and never look back.
win10, asus z97i-plus, ccs6
