MSP430G2553 LFXT1 Crystal Range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

What is the MSP430G2553 minimum and maximum crystal frequency range on LFXT1?  Can a 40 kHz crystal be used?  LFXT1 clock input range is 10kHz to 50 KHz but nothing is specified for crystals.  Please advise.

Thanks,

Mark

As LFXT is crystal oscillator then obviously it's specification is about crystals either.

  • The specs (current consumption etc.) are given for a typical 32768Hz crystal. But otehr frequencies are good as well. The lower limit is the fault detection circuit, which may complain below 10kHz. The upper limit is the LF oscillator circuit (opposed to the high-power HF oscillator circuit). 40kHz or even 50 shouldn't be a problem. 100kHz might be.
For anything outside the specs, the golden rule applies: try it. If it works, it works, if not then not. But if it works with this device, don't assume that it will work with the next device too.
