Programming using MSP FET430UIF - Error

Hi,

I am using MSP FET430UIF to program and debug AFE4490SPO2EVM. I tried programming both using IAR and CCS. My problem is sometimes this gets programmed. Otherwise it shows the error.

Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device

Once you get to program it then if you leave the programmer with out disconnecting then you will be continuously be able to program. Otherwise you need to try it many times.

I thought it may be because of loose contact but I tried 3 different cables and 3 different FETs. So I am wondering whats really the problem. I have the same problem with other boards also. Please help. Its really eating up my time.

What other boards do you have?

How helpful are the tips in this forum thread?

Hi,

I don't think detecting the FET is the problem. I can see the FET in the com ports. I think detecting the controller to be programmed is the problem. It says "device not found or not supported". Also I installed IAR in a new computer with Windows 8. It still don't work. I can build the program but I cannot download it.

The other board I am working on is a custom made EEG board using ADS 1299.

What results do you get when you read the firmware version of the MSP-FET430UIF using Elprotronic FET-Pro430 Lite Software?

Most likely you are experiencing hardware issue. If you post layout and schematics maybe we will be able can help. Picture of prototype can be useful too.

What has been your experience using the AFE44x0SPO2EVM GUI by following the instructions from the AFE44x0SPO2EVM Users Guide?

Hi,

I use that without problems. I am also able to program the board sometimes and I am using the board to acquire PPG data. So the board is functional and programmable. The only problem is that it cannot be programmed always.

I have assumed you are using custom board as AFE44x0SPO2EVM does not have external JTAG, just test points.

I am guessing your debugging is not reliable because of a way you connect the board to the debugger. Do you solder wires to test points or use pogo pins?

You can also slow down JTAG speed.

Hello everyone,

The problem seems to be with the cable. I ordered new set of cables and now its working fine in last one week. I was not sure that this was the problem since I thought there is no way all the 3 cables stopped working suddenly.

I hope my cables will remain working. Thank you everyone for all the help.
