MSP430F2xx Basic Clock Module+

Hi, masters,

I have confusion on some details about the basic clock module+ in F2xx series. In the diagram of this module, there is a part named Min.Pulse Filter, I am wondering what is this part used for? Could you give some instruction on this? Thank you very much.

  • I guess (and it's only a guess) that this is kind of a monoflop that ensures that the oscillator won't inject multi-GHz overtone oszillations into the digital part of the clock system.

  • I am guessing that this filter is related to 5.2.7 Basic Clock Module+ Fail-Safe Operation slau144j

Basically when the crystal is damaged it might start oscillating at low frequencies. Those frequencies are "filtered out" OSC fault condition is raised and system switches to DCO.

    That is my guess.

    Regards,
    Maciej

  • Maciej, this is also possible. even though the fault detection in the 5x users guide is labeled as "Fault detection" directly. I wonder why it should be named 'Min. pulse filter' here.

Also, the apparently DCO has this filter too, and the DCO has no fault detection (it has one on 4x and 5x family, but there it isn't related on the signal but rather on the DCOx bits)
