Hey All,

I am doing a project called "Micro-controller(MSP430G2231) Based LED's Display (Displaying Time Table).Launchpad comes with crystal oscillator(32KHz).Now my question is do i need to put the crystal oscillator on the launchpad or it has it's own inbuilt oscillator other than this???

I am using CD4017 and ULN2803 to drive 8 rows and 3 Shift Registers(74HC595) for columns.

Hi,

Launchpad has its own crystal oscillator, no need to add any :)

Hey Gautam,

I have not soldered the 32KHz crystal oscillator on the board yet???

But the box of MSP430 launchpad contains it.

When shipped Launchpad board does not have on-board oscillator unless you solder one that comes in the box as separate part.

Yes, as Ilmars says... you've to solder. I checked, we got it pre-soldered from our distributor.

Launchpad has one if you solder it. The MSP itself has a built-in oscillator, but not based on a crystal. It is a digitally controlled (digitally switched resistor and capacitor) R/C oscillator.

Neither precision nor stability are anywhere near a crystal, let alone a watch crystal.

Yes, as Ilmars says... you've to solder. I checked, we got it pre-soldered from our distributor.
