MSP - FET430UIF

We recently bought two MSP-FET430UIF v1.4A programmers. One of them doesn't work on Linux with CCS 5.4.0.00091. It seems that they are the same but the working one has TUSB341022A11W USB chip and second one (not working) has TUSB341028C587W.

Is it possible that these two chips have different firmware on them?

Does anybody know what is the difference between them or/and why one of them doesn't work?

    Do you also have access to a Windows computer?  What happens when you read the firmware version of both MSP-FET430UIF using the Elprotronic FET-Pro430 Lite Software?

    Thank You for Your help. We managed to read the firmware on Windows machine and the firmware version on the programmer that is not working is 2.04.07.001 and the firmware version on the programmer that is working is 3.03.00.006.

    Is it safe to upgrade the firmware of the programmer that is not working?

    Yes, please go ahead and upgrade the firmware of the MSP-FET430UIF that is not working.
