hi,

     I have started doing a project on a 3-phase energy meter using MSP430F67791 microcontroller. The application document for the project says that an earth current ct can be used for the current detection in the earth wire. I has also mentioned that the earth current calculation is not necessary. But what would be the use of the calculation of the earth current as we have already calculated the readings from the three phase wires?

    Yes, you don't need to know how much electricity is used while trying to kill someone. Earth current means dangerous failure of electrical installation that shall be immediately fixed.

    What about the neutral current transformer that was mentioned in the document. What is the actuall use if i calculate the current from the neutral wire. I mean the phase neutral and not the earth connection.
