Memory Storage for an MSP430 Data Logging project

Hi Steffen,

MSP430 FRAM devices are often a good choice for data logging due to their high write endurance, fast write speed, lower power writes than flash, and they require no special handling to write to the FRAM (no segment erase cycle first needed, etc - you can write like you would to RAM).

Yes, sounds nice. Thou G-series 2KB code flash + 16Kbyte EEPROM is lot cheaper and easier to find in distributor's stock than 16KB fram msp430. No offense - it could be good solution in many applications, especially coin-cell powered sensors.

Serial NAND flash is the way to go.  May not need wear leveling unless you are doing lots of writes.  But you should impliment some sort of error correction (ECC).

I think your solution is the one i choose. The FRAM kit is nice, but not easy to apply myself with These lots of Pins in this small package. NAND Flash sounds also good. Is this http://de.farnell.com/spansion/s34ml01g200tfi000/flash-speicher-1gbit-x8-48tsop/dp/2328000 one that i can use? There are also a lot of Pins in a small package, so it is my second choice.

So i will take an SPI Flash one, and i will order a NAND Flash for testing.

No. For this you need memory controller having address and data bus.

You better stick with SPI flash like this::

Jim told you about serial NAND. Chip in farnell page is parallel NAND. Note that most serial flash memories have SPI interface (which is serial indeed).
