GSM / GPRS interfacing with MSP430F5435

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5435, MAX3232

Hi,

I am currently working on the GSM / GPRS interfacing with the MSP430F5435 module. I have interfaced the system that can send the data from MSP430F5435 flash to the server based on TCP/ IP protocol. The reception at the server is very slow. I mean the data is received almost after 15 minutes. How do I resolve this issue?

Also, I am trying to get the data from server to device and the protocol being used is TCP/ IP. How do I track the dynamic IP address of the SIM card that is being used ? What are the AT commands and functions to be used while programming?

Thank you.

  • Questions you ask have nothing to do with msp430. Did you try to contact support of GSM/GPRS module manufacturer?

  • Sir,

I want to fetch the IP address of the SIM card inserted in the GSM module connected to MSP430F5435 using the AT commands. The AT command which I am using is "AT + CIFSR" gives me a response ( "ERROR"). How can I tackle this issue.

The GSM / GPRS module is of SAGEM HiLo make.

    Thank you

Again, this is not related to MSP430. AT commands and how they are answered by the module are part of the GSM module and the (generic) serial connection.

Did you attach the module to a PC and try there?

However, besides sending a wrong command, there are two other possible problems:

    1) your MSP code is not working properly. Then this problem is not at all related to GSM and your AT commands but rather a result of the fact that the GSM is not receiving the data properly as you don't send it properly. Did you try to communicate with a PC with the MSP before talking to a 'black box' device where you don't see what's happening?
Without knowing your code, nobody can help you with this.

    2) the hardware connection is faulty. Did you connect the MSP directly to the GSM module? Usually these modules use RS232 signal levels (-+3 to -+12V) while the MSP uses TTL levels (0V or Vcc). Such a connection would cause the GSM module to not only receive inverted buts, but may also damage the MSP due to negative voltage applied.
Yo need a level shifter such as the MAX3232 then.

However, since you write you get an 'error' response (which indicates a proper communication), I guess the problem is high-level and GSM related and would appear with any other controller as well. So please follow the advice and ask the GSM module manufacturer.
