Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, MSP-FET

I got my MSP430F5529 launchpad delivered this morning.  Plugged it in, pushed the button and got Hello World in notepad.  Emboldened by this success I loaded up Code Composer Studio 5.5.0.00077 and loaded one of the projects from slac623a, emulStorageKeyboard.  It built OK, but when trying to debug it I got the message:

MSP430: Error initializing emulator: A firmware update is required for the MSP430 Debug Interface (MSP-FET430UIF). Click the "Update" button to update the firmware and launch your debug session.  DO NOT UNPLUG THE INTERFACE DURING THE UPDATE.

So I clicked the update button and got this:

MSP430: Error: MSP-FET / eZ-FET core(communication layer) update failed

This is all brand new stuff and the current version of CCS.  ?????

Have you tried a second time?

I remember getting an error on the 1st update attempt, but the second update worked. [didn't note down what the error was]

  • I tried three times, no go.  Then I was looking in the directory where flasher was installed, the .bat looked harmless enough so I tried it.  I didn't specify a file to flash, but it knew the firmware needed an upgrade anyway and ran it.  Now it all works.  TI remains one of the two microcontroller vendors who's sample programs actually work..
