Bootstrap Loader replies with 0x00 when sending 0x80 (sync byte)

Hi,

We are trying to use the bootstrap loader on a MSP430F5438A. When we send the sync byte (0x80) we receive a response, but the response is 0x00 instead of 0x90.

Do you have any insight as to why this might be?

Ben,

I know this is somehow confusing for people who start working with BSL, however data ACK 0x90 is only to be expected when you are working with BSL on MSP430x1xx, 2xx, and 4xx devices.

For 5xx BSL, the data ack 0x00 is fine. Please refer to the chapter 3 of SLAU319.

Do you still have to send sync commands (0x80). I noticed they aren't mentioned in this section.

Furthermore, are the same functions password protected as with the other family of devices? Do you still need to do a Mass Erase to clear the password and then do an Rx Password with 32 bytes of 0xFF to unlock functions such as Rx Data Block?
