Can the PUR input remain "high" during BSL programming/loading...or does it have to go low?
I realize it is read at power up...but what about after.

You can hold the PUR high for as long as needed during the BSL process but after the BSL is finished a BOR must occur for the MSP430 to run the firmware image that was just loaded. If PUR is not low by this point you will reenter the BSL as per figure 2. in http://www.ti.com/lit/slaa452
