hi all,

i want to use msp430fg4618 and IrDA. I don't understand if the msp430 and an Infrared Transceiver Module can be a primary device or only a secondary device.

i don't understand if two secodary devices can communicate with IrDA. if i build 2 boards with msp430 and an

Infrared Transceiver Module (lets say TFDU4300)

if i build 2 boards with msp430 and an IrDA transceiver can they communicate in IrDA?

In order for two IrDA Devices to communicate with each other, one of them has to play the role of a Primary and the other one has to play the role of a Secondary. Thus if your devices can only play the Secondary role, they cannot communicate with each other.

is msp430 ( lets say msp430fg4618 that has IrDA encoder and decoder inside ) and irda trnasceiver can play the role of primary device or it can be only secondary?

Yes. But you, or someone, need to write the code to do it. There was an App Note from TI that implemented IrDA Secondary Only. That one is not capable of playing Primary role.
