Help with Part Number Please!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AES-128

I need help determining the differences between MSP430F67791IPEU and MSP430F6779IPEU. We designed a board using the MSP430F67791IPEU part and it is now unavailable. The other is still available through DigiKey. They appear to have the same pinout and same specs so i am struggling to find the difference between the two. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Boards are going into production very soon

First thing you do - compare feature list, find differences:

    ***** 1.txt
Six Channels Plus Supply and Temperature Sensor Measurement
    Six Enhanced Communications Ports
    ***** 2.txt
Six Channels Plus Supply and Temperature Sensor Measurement
Integrated Hardware AES-128 Module for Encryption
    Six Enhanced Communications Ports
    *****

  • unless my eyes are failing me, the feature list is the same. Features columns dont line up exactly, but list of features are the same. For example both have Integrated Hardware AES-128 Module for Encryption. Feature list even have the same number of bullets.

ECCN 5E002 TSPA - Technology / Software Publicly Available

is the only unique statement i can find.

Try to find word "AES" in the feature list of page: http://www.ti.com/product/msp430f67791

Perhaps my eyes are failing because I can't find

  • I apologize. I am looking at doc SLAS815B that i saved to my PC when doing the design which list that statement. The doc has been revised to SLAS815C and the statement was removed. I still cannot find any major differences between the two that would make TI add an extra digit 1 to the one of the part numbers. Thank you for your help

    AES peripheral is the difference

  • I find it hard to believe that the AES is the only difference between the two since both parts were available to purchase before TI even realized that the 67791 couldn't do AES encryption. I agree it is the only obvious difference but I have already been burned once during the prototype stage due to a vague statement in one of the MSP datasheets. Not looking to make that mistake again with full production quantities. Just would like TI to explain why they went to all the trouble of making two seemingly identical parts with different part numbers. One of which has an extra digit when compared to other MSP part numbers.

What can I say. Then contact your distributor and ask for official answer from TI.
