I am trying to find out if I am better off using the MSP430F2013 or MSP430FG4618 to with the temperature sensor. My temperatures sensor is I2C just like the MSP430. In confused as to which micro controller to use.

If the I2C temperature sensor is the only thing you need, then any MSP with USART, USI or USCI module for I2C will be fine. Actually, you can do it in software with GPIO too, using any MSP.
Unless you have other criteria, nobody can help you to narrow your choices down.
