MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad + CC3000EM communication problem

Dear Experts,

I'm working with MSP430G2553 on a launchpad and decided to buy CC3000EM wifi modules for experimenting the capabilities. However it turned out the connectors on CC3000EM is not compatible with my launchpad (my bad). So, I decided to make a breakout board with it to be able to connect it to launchpad via a prototype board. All went well, I mapped the power and SPI pins to the board. I followed the instructions here (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Basic_Wi-Fi_example_application_for_Launchpad) and downloaded the SDK from here (http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/swrc282), result is not very promising though.

I burn the code on MCU and reset the board, I'm using the virtual com port on the PC connected to launchpad via USB. Nothing happens... I checked the code for the proper pin connections, double-triple checked all the datasheets if I'm making any mistake and checked soldering of the breakout board if there's something wrong, everything seems to be correct, except the fact that I cannot communicate with CC3000EM, The string I'm supposed to see on terminal window "Example app: driver version...."doesn't appear.

I have the logical analyzer capture after a reset of the MSP, I'm running out of options. I'd appreciate any sort of help.

if you are willing to spend 19$ more and some days waiting for the delivery, i would recommend to use the EM adapter boosterpack for this:

or just order the CC3000EM boosterpack:

Hi Leo,

Thank you so much for the prompt answer, however I got 2 of these boards, since I've ordered them from US (digi-key), it made sense in terms of shipping.

Moreover, I'm pretty sure I'm doing things right, The pins on the board are properly soldered and I'm not missing any pins I guess. I have all SPI pins + VBAT + VBAT_SW_EN.

Do you have any idea what might cause the issue... I really would like to get this working :/

Hi Leo,

I took your recommendation, I got a http://www.ti.com/tool/boost-ccemadapter module and plugged this onto my launchpad and inserted cc3000EM module, recompiled and run ''Basic WiFi Application'' from TI SDK (v1.12).

It's the exact same result, there's no console access, I'd expect such thing should work if you're using all the original parts and SDK without any modification. There's obviously something wrong here. I got this jumper board which I'm sure has no function, just to rule out the possibility that board has some function. I'd assume SDK is buggy.... I'm troubleshoting it, however you need to know, this solution doesn't work out of the box for msp430g2553/launchpad.

Any help is really appreciated,

Looking a the Wiki page, I noticed some oddities:

The Wiki, while written for the EXP430G2 LaunchPad, talks about Stellaris board at several locations. Further down the screenshots of the folder contents show an “MSP430FR5739.xxcml”
This lets me assume that other parts of the text might not have been adjusted too.

It assumes the latest revision of the LaunchPad – if you have an older LaunchPad, the RX/TX lines cannot be (easily) configured for the G2553 hardware UART (requiring diagonally crossed jumper setting).

The workflow ‘Configuring the HyperTerminal’ shows at the end a status message from the G2553 – however, no code has been compiled and loaded to the G2553 yet, so it can’t show anything. Or does the booster pack come with a pre-programmed G2553?
