Hello,

I'm using a MSP430F5510 with the LQFP48 package. In my application I use also a 8th Order Lowpass filter. the frequency corner is choose with an input clock. Today somebody tell me that we need to choose the frequency corner of the filter with the microcontroller so I though about using the SMCLK pin of the MSP430 with a divider. But with the 48pin package there is no SMCLK pin. I Prefer use the 48LQFP package because all te pcb is done and this package is easyest to solder.

My application need only an SPI, a serial port and some input/ouput pin. Is there another MSP430 with the LQFP48 package and the SMCLK pin ?

To my knowledge pin 14 of 48LQPF package is GPIO/TA0CLK/ACLK.
I think you con configure TA0 for SMCLK and out put through this pin.

As your msp have the Unified Clock System
you can tell the aclk to be dco or dco divided by n

#define SELA__DCOCLKDIV (0x0400u) /* ACLK Source Select DCOCLKDIV */

The 48pin does have aclk out so you get free divider this way to.

ACLK: Auxiliary clock. The ACLK is software selectable as XT1CLK, REFOCLK, VLOCLK, DCOCLK,
DCOCLKDIV, and when available, XT2CLK.
DCOCLKDIV is the DCOCLK frequency divided by 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 within the FLL block.
ACLK can be divided by 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32.
ACLK/n is ACLK divided by 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 and is available externally at a pin.

Tony is right. In addition, you could set up Timer0 or Timer1 to divide SMCLK or ACLK and generate a clock output at P1.1 ... P1.7 or P2.0. This offers even more flexibilities.

Thank you. I thought the ACLK pin can't be use with XT2CLK but only with SMCLK.

This was true for the 1x family and partly the 2x family (don’t know for 4x). The U in UCS in the 5x/6x family stands for ‘universal’ clock system and allows to map almost everything with everything.

The different clock systems are the biggest difference between the MSP families.
