MSP430 10-Bit ADC, External Reference

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

Hi,

Our customer is using MSP430G2553 in their application and
they are using the ADC10 peripheral with an external reference(VEREF)
in order to improve the accuracy.

The problem is they want to measure small/microscopic signals with good accuracy,
but the minimum external reference input voltage range seems to be "1.4V".
We would like to know if there is any way to use low ext reference input(less than 1.4V)
while keeping the good accuracy.
or else if there are any other recommended devices which can accept the low ext reference.

Regards
Prad

  • 1.4 / 1024 = 1.37 mV per LSB.

If they are looking to measure signals where this resolution is not good enough, then they either need a device with more bits (some have an ADC12 module) or consider an external gain stage on the signal they are trying to measure using a low-noise instrumentation amplifier setup.
