String Comparisons in IAR

Hi,

I'm working on programming of MSP 430. I'm using the IAR Embedded Workbench V.4.1 . I want to know how to make string comparisons in IAR ? I read somewhere and downloaded the pgmspace header and declared some functions in my program that are used to compare strings. But ever since I included the pgmspace header file, I have been getting numerous errors while compilation. Please guide me on how to go about it ASAP?

You should try that with AVR, not MSP430.

Hi,

If you use IAR you can directly do string comparison with strcmp or strncmp. You should include string.h in your C file for using strcmp. The syntax for comparison is that of standard C strcmp function.

cmp_result = strcmp((const char*)(string1),(const char*)(string2));

You should declare cmp_result as "int" as strcmp can return a negative value if the first non-equal value is greater in string2 as compared to string1. It will return 0 if both strings match.

"strncmp" is similar to strcmp but it also allows a size field which controls how many bytes need to be matched.
