HI.

I have a product that was developed for about one year, and it now entered into production. The product use MSP430F5529 with the USB hardware available for firmware update purposes. THe HW is pretty much like the MSP-EXP430F5529.

My problem is that when I got the production boards I tried to download the FW via USB BSL and when the windows app (Firmware Update Utility) is downloading the RAM bootloader, suddenly it says "USB device was unplugged!" and the process is canceled.

So I said to me, "OK, I have change the firmware, or something" but, I tried the same FW/SW tieh my prototypes and It worked OK! So then I have checked the uC and the prototyps revision was REV E and my production boards are REV I.

I have red the errata sheets, but I can`t find the solution. I tried to load the BSL code BSL.00.07.87.37 just in case, but it didn´t fix my problem.

Do you have any idea what to do?

EDIT 1:

I tried the Python version of the firmware updater placed in the USB Lib, and It worked. I was trying to use the Visual Studio version that is on older versions of the LIB. So, there is something that has changed in between.

Do you know how to manage the issue for the c++ version ? Many thanks

Did you try the latest c++ revision, which is 1.3.1.1?

I have been working with the BSL USB download mechanism for awhile now.

What clock do you have on XT2? The TI board has 4 MHz (MSP-TS430PN80USB). That works nicely for the BSL, since it is expecting either 4, 8, 12, or 24 MHz. I was able to initially download via BSL on the TI board.

My board has a 16 MHz clock, which meant I needed to customize the BSL. I have had some problems branching to 0x1000 with custom BSL: http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/345424.aspx

However, I have been able to work-around the custom BSL problem by branching to a different address than 0x1000 in my custom BSL.

With a 4 MHz crystal, you should be able to "branch to 0x1000" in your code and then see the board with the Texas Instruments BSL_USB_GUI.exe, and then use that to update your code load.

There is a bit more involved with the "branch" - first you need to

1. Unlock USB config registers.

2. Set PUR pin to hi-z, logically disconnecting from host.

3. Disable VUSBoff interrupt.

4. Delay several cycles (500000)

5. Branch to the BSL entry location (0x1000).
