MSP430 Uart Settings on the MSP430F5437

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5437, MSP430F5437A

Hello TI,

I am trying to implement a 9600 baud rate UART on the MSP430F5437.  I do see Table 34-4 in the following user guide that illustrates the settings: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau208n/slau208n.pdf .

The situation is that we have the exact same firmware that works perfectly on some boards and does not work on others. I have measured the baud rate error and it is less than 1% on the good units and about 8% on the bad boards. This error only appears to happen at 18 MHz. On the bad boards, there is no problem at 12 or 16 MHz and more strangely, the boards also have no error at 20 MHz: this is outside the maximum recommended value, but I thought I would give it a try expecting the error to increase, but to my surprise found that the boards worked perfectly at this frequency. So it would appear to be some variation in the microcontrollers  that is causing this problem. I also measured the 32 KHz clock out signal and it was within specification.

I was curious if you had thoughts on the 18MHz issue we were seeing?
