BSL Boot Strap Loader connections to MSP430F6726

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F6726

MSP430 BSL User Guide SLAU319H mentions Devices with shared JTAG pins vs Devices with dedicated pins. Just want to confirm that the MSP430F6727 falls under dedicated JTAG pins. If so I plan to drive RST and TCK for the Entry Sequence from another on-board micro. It also seems this can be a conflict with 2 sourves driving TCK (JTAG tool or other micro doing BSL).

  • Hi,

device with shared JTAG pins has usually TEST pin just as the MSP430F6726 you are using. For 5xx/6xx devices, they have even a special pins called PJ.x which are theshared JTAG-GPIO pins.

  • For a static hardware to drive the BSL entry sequence as well as a JTAG connection, it could be necessary to make the BSL signals open collector (e.g. by putting a pull-up resistor and a diode in the signal path). So the BSL won’t block the JTAG while with attached JTAG, the BSL must not be used and must signal ‘1’ to RST and TEST/TCK.
