Hi,

I am a young developer and I would know if JAVA HID Demo in MSP430_USB_Developers_Package works on Windows 8.

Indeed HidCommunicationManager.dll seems problematic and the program is launched in background process...

Have you ever had this problem and maybe a solution for running it on Windows 8 ?

Hi Audrey,

The Java HID demo should work on Windows 8. How are you launching the Java HID demo? Are you double clicking on the executable jar file (HidDemo) or using the command line?

I tried both ways. It stops on "loaded JNI Library" using the command line.

Could you tell me the version of java you have installed on your computer? Is it 32 bit java or 64 bit java? Is your windows 8 32 bit or 64 bit?

If you don't have a MSP430 HID device connected to your computer, then a dialog box indicating that you don't have a HID device should show up. Sometimes, it is hidden behind other screen.

Yes,
Java : 1.8.0_25 (32 bits - both tried) - Windows 64 bits
The program runs but in the background processes list...

Maybe there is a mis-match between the java specified in your environment path vs what is installed vs what the command window is picking up when you type in java -version.

So, maybe you can try to specify the exact java executable you want to run. So change directory to where the HidDemo.jar file is and then from there type the location of where your jdk or jre folder is installed. So for example, my jdk is installed in Program Files (x86).

>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Java\jdk1.6.0_43\bin\java -jar HidDemo.jar

Try running the above command for both 32-bit java and 64-bit java.

If the above command works, then you might want to uninstall all the java versions on your computer, clean up the enviroment path, and then re-install one of them.

It doesn't work...
Others *.jar work without problem (eg HelloWorld.jar...), so I thought it was a problem with the dll (a jni export problem or dll for Windows 8 ?). Does this HidDemo.jar work on your Windows 8 ?

Yes, it works on my Windows 8 machine with 64 bit Windows 8.1 installed. The java version I have installed on the Windows 8 is jdk1.5.0_22. I can double click on the jar file and bring up the tool and I can also bring up the tool using command line.

Please let me know if the 1.5 jdk works so that we can make a note that the 1.8 does not work with the HidDemo tool.

Hi,

Are you using a laptop ? What is your configuration ?
We are having issues with this DLL on laptops, whereas on a tower PC it launches.
In our IDE, Eclipse, when we comment the DLL, it launches too but when it uses the DLL, the software runs in background and no window is displayed (tried alt+tab or to plug another monitor, no changes).

Hi, Audrey,

When the process is running do you see the HidTool icon (Texas Instruments icon) in the task bar? Some of the folks here think that it might be the case that the tool thinks it is running on a screen that is not there. So here is something you can try:

ALT-TAB to slect window/application that is off-screen

WindowsKey+Left or Right to put the window to one edge of the screen which makes it visible again. Left or right may depend on which side your second screen is relative to your primary screen.

Hi Arthi,
There is no HidTool icon in the task bar, only Java (TM) in TaskManager (background process).

So did you try the Windows commands I sent you even though you might not see the icon in the task bar? We need to eliminate possibilities.

Hi Arthi,

I have tried this Windows command and the Alt+tab, it worked on my brother's laptop with almost the same configuration as mine, but not on mine...

Here is my configuration : CPU i5-4210U, 4g RAM, NVidia 820GM graphic card.
The configuration on which it works : CPU i7-4510U, 4g RAM, Nvidia 840GM graphic card.

Another question, have you ever had a problem with the DLL's functions (such as the "getSerialForVidPid one) ?
