CC430F5137 LPM3 high current with ACLK = LFXT1

I am trying to test the lpm3 modes on a  MSP430-CCRFLCD - Olimex using the cc430x513x_LPM3_1 (Enters LPM3 (ACLK = LFXT1)) and cc430x513x_LPM3_2 (Enters LPM3 (ACLK = VLO)) examples in CCS.  I have removed the LCD and R24.  I have changed the gpio settings to  allow for pullups:

P1OUT = 0x8e;
  P1DIR = 0xFF;

  P2OUT = 0x8f;
  P2DIR = 0xFF;

  P3OUT = 0xc0;
  P3DIR = 0xFF;

  P5OUT = 0x00;
  P5DIR = 0x03;

  PJOUT = 0x00;
  PJDIR = 0xFF;

When running the "Enters LPM3 (ACLK = VLO)" example, and using and external power supply, I get 2.5uA current as expected.  When running the "Enters LPM3 (ACLK = LFXT1)" example, I get 140uA current draw rather than the expected few uAs.  Any Ideas what i could be doing wrong?
