My project requires Bluetooth Uart communication to emulate a specific tone from the MSP430F5529 LP.

From the other threads....and if my understanding is correct....the Launchpad can be power by either 3.3 volts or 5 volts (I am assumed by a battery supply attached to a voltage regulator). If the 5 volts is attached, then the launchpad cannot perform any emulation and is incapable of UART; therefore, my code that is burned on the MSP430F5529 chip will not work with a 5 voltage power supply source . If the 3.3 Volts is attached then the emulation and UART will run but launchpad can not provide a 5 volt reference source.

Is this accurate?

Please advise.

This case is described in sections 2.4.2 and 2.4.3 of the MSP-EXP430F5529LP User's Guide; with an external 5 V power source, the eZ-FET emulator can be powered through the DC-DC-convert either from the external power source or from the USB 5 V power.

Thanks for your reply but I still do not understand what the difference between powering the MSP430 LP with a 5v or a 3.3v source does.

I have read those user guide sections and have noticed that the eZ-FET emulator is on the upper right corner of the MSP430F5529 launchpad. With the 5 votls, does is mean that portion of the board is on?

Using the eZ-FET makes sense only with USB, and with a USB connection, it always can get 5 V for its own power.
