MSP430-eZ430-RF2500 Evaluation Kit(Msp430f2274 microntroller operation modes)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2500

Hello ,

I am facing problem while going to different modes in MSP430-eZ430-RF2500 Evaluation Kit when controller goes to LPM0, LPM1,LPM2 or LPM3 or 4 there is  very little change in current and its also in Mili ampere but in its data sheet it shows it will be in micro amps. operating frequency 1.5 MHZ . Operating voltage 3.3 V. Every thing is off only use push button to go to active mode and then come back to any of the desired mode. Maybe is it due to cc2500 wireless module used in the development board?

Active mode I(ma)  2.25

LPM0 1.835

LPM1 1.822

LPM2 1.753

LPM3 1.732

LPM4 1.730

  • Hi Hayat,

Yes, what you are seeing is the current consumption by everything else on the board.  At LPM4, the 430's current should be 0.1uA, which is essentially negligible so all current there comes from everything else on the board.  If we compare your measured values to your LPM4 value, we get the 430's current draw in each configuration mode:

    Measured Current Difference to LPM4
    Active Mode 2.25 0.520
    LPM0 1.835 0.105
    LPM1 1.822 0.092
    LPM2 1.753 0.023
    LPM3 1.732 0.002
    LPM4 1.730 0.0

All of these numbers fall within the expected range on the F2274's datasheet for current consumption in low power and active modes.  Note that depending on the quality of you current meter, your accuracy when measuring down to the microamp, or sub-microamp range may not be that great, which makes it difficult to verify LPM3 and 4 currents to sub-microamp levels.
