MSP430G2553 Spurious INFOB Flash Erase

I am storing a small amount of checksummed data in triplicate in INFOB, INFOC, and INFOD segments.  This data is written in the factory and isn't touched in the field (though the code remains in the product to write it).

On occasion (though very rarely), the INFOB copy of the information will be erased in the field and the other 2 copies will remain intact.  In looking through the forums I found this statement:

"And suddenly the supply voltage is not high enough anymore to allow the flash controller to operate properly on the CPU read requests, sometimes leading to flash corruption (if the CPU hasn't crashed before)."

link: http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/414736

Is this correct?  Can low operating voltage during flash read cause flash corruption?  Or does operation at low voltage just lead to indeterminate results when reading flash?  If I were to cycle power and come back up to a normal operating voltage, would the flash be read as intact?

Thanks,

Shawn

  • Shawn,

The main concern here is flash programming or erasing at low voltages. If you check Figure 1 of the datasheet, you will see a chart that gives operating frequency versus voltage. It also describes the minimum voltage required for FLASH Programming/Erasing. Flash execution is still viable at the minimum operating voltage.
