Power On reset facility for msp430g25532 and Launchpad compatiblity

I am using MSP430G launcpad with MSP430G25532

following are the queires

1. What should be arrangement for power on reset, any external RC circuit is needed.

2. As I need to use cheapest IC for my application, I am exploring lMSP430G2 with minumium port and a adc facility. Can you suggest me

3. ALso does all MSp430G2 microcontrollers are compatable with the MSP430G2 launcpad . That is, can I do debugging with all (MSP430G2) the range of mciroontrollers with the launcpad.

1. The G2 board provides what are needed for Power on reset - a pull-up resistor and a small pull-down capacitor. Any extra capacitance may cause problem in SBW operations.

2&3. All MSP430G2xxx chips in DIP-14 or DIP-20 can be used on the G2 board. Other packages of the equivalents of the above can be programmed/debugged via the G2 SBW interface. This includes power, ground, and 2 signals. But the connection must use short wires/cable with low inductance and capacitance . Other MSP430G2xxx are suppose to work the same way. But, personally, I am not sure they really work without problem.

Ashutosh,

1. I'm a little confused as to what your asking. A power on reset (POR) can be generated in 3 ways: Powering up the device, pulling the RST/NMI pin low, or by an SVS low condition with PORON=1 (essentially meaning a drop in supply voltage, but this needs to be set. This is covered in more detail in section 2.1 on page 29 of the family's user guide http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slau144.

As far as the external circuitry, you can copy what's being done on the Launchpad (RST Pulled to VCC with a 47k resistor, a 1nF cap to GND, and a N.O. switch to ground. This is illustrated on page 6 of the Schematic+Silscreen.pdf in the Hardware design files available at: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac437\

2. I'm not sure what you mean by "minimum port" and am assuming you need it to be compatible with the launchpad, but have a look at http://www.ti.com/product/msp430g2111 which uses a comparator_A+ for precision slope analog-to-digital conversion, and http://www.ti.com/product/msp430g2131 which sports an 8 channel ADC10. 3. If I'm understanding correctly, you would like to know which 'G2s you can use as target device (placed in the 20 pin DIP socket). The MSP430G2 Launchpad supports MSP430G2xx2, MSP430G2xx3, and MSP430F20xx devices. These can be 14 or 20 Pin DIP packages. Point no 1
I mean to say that as in Atmega we need to tie Reset pin to vcc through RC network. Does same thing has to be done for the mspg430g2.

Yes. RST Pulled to VCC with a 47k resistor, a 1nF cap to GND, and a N.O. switch to ground is how the LaunchPad is set up.
