Msp430 vbat with capacitor

I am trying to setup a vbat based backup for an msp430 with a removable battery.  In the data sheet it suggests that you can use a capacitor for backup and use the resistive charger to charge it.  Would I just connect a supercap to the vbat and charge it once I power via dvcc?

Thanks

Ed

  • Hello Ed,

Can you list which MSP430 you are using? This will help with getting you a better answer. If you are asking about some of the systems available within our MSP430F5xxx/6xxx family of parts, the Battery Backup System does offer a path to charging external capacitors like super-caps. You can use the integrated charging circuit to keep a super-cap charged when DVCC is applied to the part. This ensures you have the cap at full capacity when DVCC is taken away that way you can keep the RTC_B up and running for as long as possible.
