Reuse MSP430G launchpad for evaluating MSP430FR series MCUs

We have couple of MSP430Gx series Launchpads and assume that emulation breakout at eZ430-connector should help evaluate MSP430FR6972(populated on custom board with eZ430-compliant-connector).

* Please confirm if above assumption is OK

* In case OK, please share the interface details for eZ430-connector

* Please share firmware updates to emulation hardware breakout from MSP430Gx series Launchpad

* Please share software updates needed to setup_CCS_5.1.0.00010(3)

Please download the user's guide for the G2 LaunchPad to review the table of supported processors. The FR series is not included.

In that case do we have option of debug-emulator breakout only for custom PCB holding the FRAM MCU

You will need another LaunchPad like the FR5969 one:

Or go for the MSP-FET, which is the best choice, of course (but more expensive).

I would do it the other way around.

That is, I would use the ez-FET Rev 1.2 part of any one of the FR Launchpat to evaluate the (a) FR chip on its Target part, (b) the G2 chips on the G2-LP Target part, and (c) other MSP chips on other target boards.

The EMULATION part of G2-LP is very finicky and limited. ez-FET Rev 1.2 is much nicer. So are the Application UART supports of them. The price difference is rather small. (Especially when you consider that the "LCD Glass" is hard to get.)

Aside from the MSP-EXP430FR5969 without LCD, there are at least 2 others.
MSP-EXP430FR4133 at with LCD Glass
MSP-EXP430FR6989 at with LCD Glass
