MSP432 LaunchPad and Educational BoosterPack MkII LCD

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-EDUMKII, ENERGIA

So I have a MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad and a BOOSTXL-EDUMKII BoosterPack and I have been trying out various examples in the CCS Cloud environment. I have had sucess with most examples, but I am having trouble compiling the examples that use the LCD, for example "LCD_Joystick", "LCD_LifeGame", "LCD_Screen_Logos", "JoystickDrawColor", etc. Compiling produces an error: @root/energia-0101E0016/hardware/msp432/libraries/EduBPMKII_Screen/Screen_HX8353E.cpp:74:2: error: #error Platform not supported Is it really the case that the LCD on the BoosterPack is not supported by the supplied drivers when using the MSP432 LaunchPad? Or is there a configuration setting somewhere that I am missing?
  • Hi Matthew,

I remember testing this just fine in Energia 15 (I have a edited version so I don't update often).
Well it seems that for some reason Energia 15 (and apparently 16) does not support the LCD with that launchpad - in this version more errors appear.

I got Energia 16 to test out . Edited out that check and it compiled just fine. You could try to do that.
In "energia-0101E0016\hardware\msp432\libraries\EduBPMKII_Screen" there's the file "Screen_HX8353E.cpp" and there should be at about line 68 a "if" that checks which board you use. Try commenting it out, as well the corresponding "end if", "else" and the next "end if"
  • Thanks. I have tried that, but the CCS Cloud environment will not let me save that file after editing it: "Operation not allowed. Destination resource is either linked or virtual". I guess I will download CCS and try it locally.
  • The example is from Energia - just download Energia, it's faster just to test it out
  • Btw Matthew,

I want to maybe switch the board that I am going to use with the boosterpack to a MSP432 one. For power consumption sake. My boosterpack as yet to arrive and I will have little time to make adaptations.

Could you later report back if you we're successful ?
  •
Partly successful. If I comment out the check then LCD_Joystick, LCD_screen_test, LCD_screen_Logos, and LCD_protocol100 all build and run. LCD_LifeGame does not - there are further error in the main sketch.

A post on the 43oh forum indicates there are known problems: forum.43oh.com/.../
  • Thanks Matthew,

If the those simpler ones run just fine then I might try to use the MSP432 on the project. I just require to print out some values (like the joystick example)
