MSP-EXP432P401R connecting to UART COM

When connecting the MSP-EXP432P401R to my Windows PC, XDS110 shows up in Device Manager as COM4 and 3. Until yesterday I was able to connect to COM4 to send data to the MSP through UART. However, today I somehow ended up with an error and after getting that issue fixed, my applications cannot access COM4. I tried a power-cycling of the MSP and the PC as well as switching USB ports to no avail. COM4 still shows up in Device Manager, but PuTTY and other applications aren't able to connect to it, any ideas why?

  • Hi SpartanEngineer,

Try changing the he XDS110 serial number, this change should make windows re-install the drivers and your XDS100 should show in a different COM Port.

    Please follow these steps:

    1) Plug the XDS110 debug probe into your computer. Make sure that you only have one XDS110 class debug probe plugged in. The xdsdfu program will attempt to flash the first XDS110 debug probe it finds.

    2) Run the following two commands from this directory (in your CCS folder) C:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110:

    xdsdfu -m
    xdsdfu -s xxxxxxxx -r

where xxxxxxxx is a serial number, any combination of letters and numbers, from 1 to 8 characters in length.

You may need to pause after the first command to give the OS time to recognize that the XDS110 has reconfigured as a different USB device.

Please give this a try and let us know if this fixed your problem.

    Regards,

    David
  • Changing the serial number fixed the issue. I had previously tried to manually remove the drivers and forced Windows to re-install them, but I guess that wasn't enough. As a side note, the COM port for the Auxiliary Data Port remained the same, but the Application/User UART moved up.
