Hi,

I am new to USB. I am using MSP430F5659 device which has ADC and other peripherals like EEPROM, Flash, switches etc

I need some help in device class selection. My requirements are ADC configuration and ADC reading, Configuration writings into EEPROM triggering switches ON/OFF. So i would like to know which device class is better choice HID or CDC?

Please guide me.

CDC can go up to 1 MByte / s and PC side is the same like for UART. Here is CDC logic analyzer example...

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. But how to download the firmware? i got warning when i tried to download firmware.

I have few queries

- Do we need any specific data to be sent while enumeration?

- How device gets data when PC application send some data? whether we need to develop any protocol for data transfer or any generic data commands are available?

- Or is it a file access type?

What warning?

Everything is explained in TI USB Stack pdf, and stack has prepared send / receive commands. CDC on PC side working same as UART, with file write / read commands. During enumeration under Windows, os will ask for inf file. Linux / OS X will enumerate CDC device automatically, without any questions.

Thanks for the input. some queries as follows

- In CDC class PC side USB host will act as similar to serial and send the data in USB packet?

- In Device side CDC class will act serial device to receive the data, do we need any USB to UART converter or it works on USB without any hardware change?

Asking because i am using MSP430F5659 in built USB as my device which will connect to PC host over USB cable.

You get a virtual COM port. Your firmware can do whatever it wants with the data. See the C1_LedOnOff example.

You are talking with regards to PC (Host) side right. But my concern is whether my device side in hardware i need any extra chip for USB to serial converter?
