ECCN and MCUs

Hi,

This is a non technical question :-). While ordering TI development boards I have noticed number of questions get asked which initially seemed to me redundant or survey type info that TI collects. But then I noticed on TI website this ECCN info for MCU  that seems to indicate that one needs to know which part of the world it will get used.

My question is very simple - how does one know if a micro-controller like MSP430G2X, or a wireless MCU like CC1X, or one of the peripheral chips  is usable for a commercial application or even for product development outside of US?

thanks

  • Hi Farooq Bari,

I think most of your ECCN questions can be answered by the BIS website:
    www.bis.doc.gov/.../export-control-classification-number-eccn
    www.bis.doc.gov/.../286-licensing-faq

Basically there is a list of restricted countries that TI cannot export their products to. The most restricted destinations are the embargoed countries and those countries designated by the Department of State as state sponsors of terrorism. ECCN entries are found on the Commerce Control List (CCL) and identify reasons for control which indicate licensing requirements to certain destinations and relate to concerns about the parties to the transaction and the end-use of the item.

  • thanks Ryan. This is useful info. Where do I find if a TI microcontroller has an ECCN or EAR - TI website says that it is in the datasheet but I cannot seem to find this info.

  • If your distributor cannot give you quick access to ECCN data then you can use the following contact e-mail to acquire this information: gtc_eccn-hts-naftateam@list.ti.com

Microcontroller devices of the same family (MSP430, Stellaris, C2000, etc.) should have similar classifications but if you desire information for multiple variants it would be best to send them as an XLS attachment.

    Regards,
    Ryan
