How to load the code without using IAR or any IDE!

There are several ways for doing this. It depends on which connections are available on your board. One option is the Bootloader (BSL) - the MSP has pins that share the BSL funtionality. A program would be the BSL Scripter, for example. Here is an overview.

Or when using the normal SBW / JTAG pins, you can use a program like FET-Pro-430 to load the compiled HEX file into the processor. The LITE version is free.

I'm not familiar with IAR, but it can generate the HEX file for you. You will easily find the information about how to do that in the internet.

I'm not into FET-Pro-430 as I believe it is still an IDE like IAR but faster and more expensive. BSL, on the other hand I need to find the right version for MSP430F47197. I'm not sure how it works but need to dig more!

Definitely no IDE. It is a programmer. And as I said - you can get the LITE version for free. But of course you can also go for BSL.

Does not let me load my code with the IAR extension. Only .d43 is available. I am not too sure how it works! However, you are saying that this software is only a programmer, not a debugger or compiler. Right?

I'm using it with .txt files generated by CCS. IAR will be able to generate other file formats as well.

OK I see. I guess I may use .d43 and use FET-Pro-430 to load it into my device! Seems you use Code Composer Studio. But how do you use .txt file to load the code into FET-Pro-430?

FET-Pro-430 is a software. You select the file you want to use, select the target processor and the type of connection and start programming. Of course you need a hardware programmer like the MSP-FET.

Also, I noticed that my code uses the code to call BSL!

I need to dig more. It fails to load when I use FET-Pro-430!

Seems I need to purchase the software in order to get this to work!

There is one thing that I would like to know. Even if I can get this to work with using "emeter-47197.d43" instead of

"CONSUMPTION - EMETER.eww", we wouldn't like to involve any extra jobs to do. So, I would like to know if BSL does a job pretty much like the FET_PRO or even more brief and shorter for the end-user. you know what I mean? Like an executable file for a GUI that an end user uses to run it!

The definition for BSL is as follows:

The Bootloader (BSL, formerly known as the bootstrap loader) is an application built into MSP low-power microcontrollers. It enables the user to communicate with the device to read from and write to its memory.

However, I don't need to have access to the memory. I just simply need to load the firmware by pressing one push button.

So, other than the above-mentioned stuff do you suggest any other option please?

I think BSL is the way with minimum extra comfort. And you do not need a FET for it - a simple serial to UART converter is enough.

It seems there is no code listed for 4XX family, even though if I want to use! Am I right?

Look into the datasheet of your device. It says:

Use those pins in combination with the BSL Scripter, for example and you can load your code into the microcontroller.

I see! My pin 90 is already taken! Um... I believe BSL helps you to load your code without JTAG and as you said with the help on those pins. However, I am looking for a way to get rid of IAR or CSS! That programmer is good. But I need something so fast for the production line that you required to push the button and loads the unit with the firmware.

Sorry CaEngineer, but I cannot figure out what you are exactly looking for. You do not want to use BSL, OK. And you do not want to use any IDE which is absolutely understandable. But in addition you do not want to use the MSP-FET430UIF in combination with a software like FET-Pro-430 which is made for production, at least when the unit count isn't that high.

Finally I got it to work with the help of a batch file it was sitting within the folder for the MSP-Flasher! A great solution that allows you not to use the IAR or CCS to load the firmware!
