MSP430 CCS for Mac "Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found"

Hi all,

I am trying to run a simple LED Blink code on an MSP430FR5739 launchpad using CCS for Mac. While trying to load the code through the debug button, it gives me the following error "Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found".

Has anyone had this error before on Mac? Is this an issue related to drivers for the MSP? I will attempt to use CCS on a windows machine later today but would like to be able to use CCS for Mac as well. Thank you.

  • Hi Chad,

My understanding is that boards with the older eZ-430 emulation (rather than eZ-FET that is on all the new launchpads) do not have Mac support due to some hardware limitation. You can see sgspecker's reply on this other thread about MSP-EXP430G2 here for more info: e2e.ti.com/.../1732961 I think that the MSP-EXP430FR5739 Experimenter's board is also affected because it too has the eZ-430 emulation (you can find if your board uses eZ430 vs eZFET by checking www.ti.com/.../slau647 section 3.1). If you have any Launchpad available with the newer eZ-FET on it (MSP-EXP430FR5969, MSP-EXP430FR6989, MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP-EXP430FR4133) then I believe you should be able to use a few wires to use the emulation section from one of those boards to program the MSP430FR5739 device on your board with Mac if you need Mac support but need to use that device/board.

    Regards,
    Katie
