3Phase energy meter using msp430 f6779

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F6779

Hi,

I am using  TI lib for my 3 phase energy meter using msp430f6779

Its working good

But the lib is written as by taking 4096 samples from adc to meet the class 0.5 accuracy ,

and in my project it is effecting the other operations so i need to reduce the sample count ,is it possible to reduce it

or it is necessary to get this much sample to meet class 0.5 accuracy.

Please get me some help to solve this problem

  • Hi Eugine,

How is the sample count affecting other operations? Are 4096 samples costing too much time for your application? The number of samples is probably significant for the accuracy but I am looping in members of the Metering Team to confirm this, please pardon the delay as they formulate a response.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • The software does work in blocks of about 4096 samples (the exact number of samples varies a little with the mains frequency), but most of the processing occurs sample by sample. The is little RAM consumed for buffering, and the computations are spread fairly smoothly over time. The final calculations - taking square roots, scaling, etc. - occur in a burst at the end of each block of samples. Is the length of this burst of processing the part which causes trouble for you? Using a different length of block won't help there, as the same number of calculations would need to occur for any size of block. It would, however, be possible to restructure that block of work into smaller pieces, rather than doing it all in one go. Would such a change help you?

  • Hello Eugine,

Has Steven's post sufficiently answered your questions? Please let us know if there is anything left unresolved.
