CapTIvate - How long can we put sensor panel and MSP430 part each other?

Hi,

How long can we put sensor panel and MSP430 part each other?

I think that it gets more noise when wiring length is long.

Please teach me about it.

Best regards,

Yuji

  • Hi Yuji!

Could you please add some further information about the hardware? You want to connect a sensor to the MSP430? What type of sensor / what type of signal between sensor and MSP430 do you have?

    Dennis
  • Hi Dennis,

Thank you very much for your reply!
I want to connect electrodes with MSP430FR25/26(CapTIvate).
The 430 will have capacitance data.

    Best regards,
    Yuji
  • Yuji,
Yes you are correct, noise can have an impact because the long traces will act as an antenna. The length will be directly proportional to the capacitance per unit length of the traces/cables. In the datasheet we specify an ability to measure loads up to 300pF, so you can calculate the maximum distance based upon the capacitance per unit length of the medium chosen. As mentioned in the design guide there are software and hardware features to tune the response to compensate for larger amounts of parasitic capacitance associated with the interconnect (parasitic cancellation) as well as deal with any noise introduced (frequency hopping).

    Hope that helps.

  • Dear Chris

    Thank you very much!
