About the Oscillation allowance of MSP430F5255

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5255

Hello.

I have some questions about MSP430F5255.

On page 27, it describes the spec of the oscillation allowance.

①    What is the resistance value of oscillation allowance at 24MHz ?

②    Would you please tell me recommended crystal devices that satisfy Safety Factor 5?

Best regards,

Uchida

  • Hello Uchida,

The oscillation allowance of a 24 MHz crystal is 200 Ohms. Please refer to the MSP430 32-kHz Crystal Oscillators Application Report as its recommendations concerning crystal type and proper board layout are similar to that of HF crystals: www.ti.com/.../slaa322b.pdf

The main guidelines to follow include using a low-ESR crystal, choosing the proper parallel capacitors, using an isolated ground island, populating the crystal in close proximity to the MSP430, and keeping the crystal traces as short as possible. Procedures for testing the crystal oscillator are provided in Section 4.

    I understand.
    Thank you.
