MSP432 Launchpad Inductor Part

Hey,

On the MSP432P401R launchpad, the inductor (L1) has two different part numbers. The one on the datasheet's schematic (LQM21PN4R7NGR) and the other one on the launchpad's Bill of Materials (LQH2MCN4R7M02L). I checked DigiKey's website and the differences were self resonant frequencies and current rating. My main question is just whether or not the self resonant frequencies of the two inductors is a main factor or are these both sort of interchangeable?

Thanks,
Nick Hellenbrand

  • Hi Nicholas!

You're right, there are different part numbers. The one that is used on the MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad (at least on the ones I got here) is the LQM21PN4R7NGRD. This is the part shown in the schematic - the BOM lists the other part which is not used.

    For your reference:

    LQM21PN4R7NGRD

    LQH2MCN4R7M02L

The used one ia a multilayer ferrite in 0805 package, while the other part is a real coil with windings in a 0806 package. Both types look interchangeable, but the ferrite is the one that got assembled.
