MSP430G2553 sharing crystals between multiple controllers

Hi Phillip,

you can not share one crystal between four MSP430G2553.

But you could use the crystal with one G2553 and feed the ACLK square wave to the XIN of the other three controllers.

Thanks for the help. With my ACLK feeding into the XIN pin to my other three controllers, do I simply tie the XOUT pin to ground and that should be it?

I think Phillip Nash might have misunderstood you.
I think he is thinking of wiring the XOUT pin (instead of the P1.1 pin)of the G2533 with the crystal to all the XIN pins of the other three G2533s.

Thanks for your reply. Based on what I've read and my understanding, this is what I think I should do.

Have a single crystal connected to one of my controllers (call this the master rtc controller in this case). Have the ACLK from my master rtc controller connected to the XIN pin of my other three controllers (in parallel). The XOUT pin in my other three controller will be just configuring as a GPIO IN/OUT.

Is it as simple as that?

Just want to make sure that this ACLK is from P1.0 of your master rtc controller. Not from XOUT pin of your master rtc controller.

And, of course, you need to set up P1.0 to be used in this way.
