No USB FET was found when using windows 10

Hello,

I have been using Code Composer Studio v5.3.0 with Windows 7 for some time and had no problems coding or debugging. Upgrading to Windows 10 has caused CCS to display ERROR INITIALIZING EMULATOR (No USB FET was found).

I’ve tried installing CCS V6 and the same error is displayed. Note that I have not removed CCS v5 from the system during the new installation.

I’m using LaunchPad MSP-EXP430G2. Please let me know if there is a work-around for this problem or do I need revert back to the windows 7 operating system.

    Hello Art,

    The MSP-EXP430G2 has been proven to work with Windows 10 in the past, the issue is probably due to leftover material from CCS v5.3. I would try uninstalling both versions of CCS followed by re-installing V6. You might also want to make sure that your FET tool is properly enumerating on the COM ports and that the latest drivers are properly installed.     Thank for your response but I'm still having a problem with the FET tool. I loaded ccs6.1.2 after removing ccs5. Should I have downloaded ccs6.0 first?

    I checked my device manager in windows 10 and the USB port is reporting:
    Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

    A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

    Please let me know if this helps to solve this emulator FET problem.

    Just for your information:

    I can run CCS5.5 and CCS6.1.x parallel without troubles.

    But its on a windows 7 machine, so I guess its an windows10 exclusive problem, and I will take a wildly guess saying it wont be the last problem :)

    Only think thta is happening when switching between the CCs versions is that the MSP FET programer need to update or downgrade its firmware each first time using it in the different Version, but it all works flawless besides that.

    Hope you find a fix to your problem.

    If your FET tool is not properly enumerating on the COM ports then the drivers are most likely not installed correctly, please download and install them using the eZ430 Emulator link on the following MSPDS tool page: http://www.ti.com/tool/mspds

    I have downloaded the driver support links( http://www.ti.com/tool/mspds) you provided but still the USB port doesn’t recognize input as valid.
    Is there a way to check the communication at the board level and is there firmware in the board that would need to be updated.

    It's unlikely but there could be an issue with the eZ430 firmware on the MSP430F1612. This would require a separate MSP-FET or MSP-FET430UIF tool connected to the eZ430 test points in order to update the eZ430 emulator, which is probably more hassle than a MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad is worth. As stated before the MSP-EXP430G2 has been proven to work with Windows 10 before so the issue still most likely lies with your system, unless you know of something done that could have corrupted the eZ430 firmware.

    I’ve been working on this issue for three months now and unable to find a fix. The time limit to convert back to windows 7 has expired so I’m stuck with this windows 10. I think I’ll move on with a different approach but thank you for all your help in trying to resolve this problem.
