Hello Community,

I am having trouble updating the firmware of my MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool device.

I know it is not a hardware issue with my MSP-FET, because I am able to update and recover the firmware on another computer using the same method.

When I try to run the MSP430Flasher.exe using the command prompt, I get the following errors shown in the image.

During the update, only my MSP-FET Green Light (Power) stays solid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kevin,

This behavior seems strange. Can you provide some information about the two different computers that you're using?

On the one that works, it is a new Dell PC with windows 10.
On the one the doesn't work, it is a 2yr old Dell with windows 7.
Could it be something with the COM port or maybe drivers?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for providing this information. On the Windows 7 PC, it could be missing some Windows USB drivers, as described in the two threads below. Could you please check if your case is similar and let me know?

I tried the above recommendations and searched in the folder directory, but I was not missing any of the mentioned files.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for trying those recommendations.

On your Windows 7 PC, can you see if the MSP-FET will enumerate as an HID device in Device Manager? Also, could you try running the MSPFlasher as Administrator?

Hey James,

The device is now showing up under Ports as MSP Debug Interface (COM8), which it didn't before. I do not know what changed, but I was able to get the FET Debugger to update successfully. It now works.
